This August, Prosperity Market, a roving farmers market spotlighting Black farmers, food producers, and chefs will host a Black Business Scavenger Hunt taking Angelenos on a journey across the city through Inglewood, Compton, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the Valley and more.
In honor of Black Business Month, Prosperity Market founders Kara Still and Carmen Dianne have partnered with more than 50 L.A. Black entrepreneurs across food, fashion, arts and entertainment, and developed clues to encourage participants to discover new and hidden gems and support local shops, cafes and galleries.
Destinations will range from an upscale wine bar to popular coffee shops and restaurants from vegan to soul food. The Black Business Scavenger Hunt is sponsored by Wells Fargo and Black Co-Operative Investment Fund, and will include vendors like Sip & Sonder, Hilltop, 1010 wine, Grilled Fraiche, Sole Folks and Hotville Chicken.
“While Prosperity Market primarily focuses on food, the Scavenger Hunt gives us an opportunity to feature Black entrepreneurs in industries outside the culinary world,” Still said in a press release. “We want to elevate the visibility of these establishments, so we can keep valuable dollars circulating within the Black economy.”
Each week in August, Prosperity Market will release clues on their website and Instagram (@Prosperity.Market) to unlock the designated locations. Participants can earn points by visiting locations, checking in and taking a photo with a QR code, and sharing on Instagram (or via email, for those without social media). Extra points can be earned by making a purchase at each location, attending special events throughout the month, or snapping photos of Nipsey Hussle murals. The participants with the most points at the end of the month will win special prizes, revealed at Prosperity Market’s pop-up market on Aug. 27.
The roaming mobile market features Black farmers, food producers, entrepreneurs, artists, florists and chefs, and was created during the pandemic and social unrest of 2020 by makeup and fashion industry veterans Dianne and Still.
Throughout the month of August, additional events and activations will be announced. Follow along online here for more updates.
