It's summer and yet it's temperate out, so we get to enjoy all the shows and fests that come with the season without melting in 100+ degree temperatures. Who said that global climate change had no upside? Not us! Anyway, this weekend there are fests, free shows, cheap shows, all ages shows…here is a sample of the best things L.A. has to offer.

FRIDAY JUNE 17

PSYCHO BEACH PARTY WITH MARK SULTAN + LAMPS + TRMRS + DEATH HYMN #9

You might know Mark Sultan from King Khan and BBQ Show, a garage rock duo that mixes doo-wop with garage –kind of like if Phil Spector had done a record with the Sonics. Sultan also has his own thing going, a glorious mess of influences ranging from rock'n'roll to garage to country and back again. Enjoy “Misery's Upon Us” from his 2010 release $.

HUNX AND HIS PUNX + LA SERA + BLEACHED + MEXICAN WRESTLING

We've written about Hunx and His Punx before— an Oakland garage band fronted by Seth Bogart (who you may know from Gravy Train!!!!). They make that might best be described as bubblegum-garage, churning out cry-on-the-dancefloor party anthems by mixing girl group vocals with homoerotic narratives and catchy vintage organ hooks. We can think of no better opener than Mexican wrestling. Check out “You Don't Like Rock 'n' Roll” above.

When: Saturday June 18 at 8 pm

Where: Nomad Gallery

Info: 18+ / $10

LUNA IS HONEY + TREMELLOW + THE SEIZURE

L.A. band Luna is Honey makes music that takes the best of early '80s new wave and updates it for contemporary sensibilities. Think Duran Duran or Adam Ant without some of the more bizarre production choices that characterized the records of the early 80s. Here they are covering Prince with “I Would Die 4 You.”

Where: Three Clubs
