Bloody Mary and the Sound of Sirens: French-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Bloody Mary says that she’s always been a vinyl collector, and still is to this day.

“I learned how to play with turntables at an early age, and that’s how I got to become a resident DJ of an infamous club in the South of France in the mid 2000s,” she says. “I’d say my career got more serious in 2009, after releasing my debut album Black Pearl. In 2010, I started my vinyl label Dame-Music, which I still run heavily today. As a music producer, it was necessary to have my own imprint to allow me to not feel restricted with my creativity and output. In 2014, I started playing live on stage with a hardware only set up. These days I keep the live set for special events and I’ve found my balance between performing as a DJ or as a live act. I love synths & gear, and spending hours in my studio is a daily routine.”

The artist describes her sound as very raw and energetic.

“I love acid bass lines in any genre, from house to techno,” she says. “I’m honored that I’ve produced music for some of my favorite labels like Ovum run by Josh Wink, Afro Acid run by DJ Pierre, U-TRAX, MISSILE, etc.”

Regarding the current state of electronic music, Bloody Mary says that she would prefer people from the scene (promoters, media, DJs) to place more value on the role of music producers.

“Also, I wish promoters would put an emphasis on adding more live acts to their line ups,” she says.

Bloody Mary’s most release is the “Siren” single.

“‘Siren; is part of The Melting Point Vol 4, an acid series that I started on my label Dame-
Music back in 2017,” she says. “This follows the first 3 volumes of the series, which featured tracks from the likes of KiNK, Josh Wink, Hardfloor, Thomas P. Heckmann and more. The Vol 4 vinyl came out last December and includes 5 acid cuts. The concept is to invite my favorite acid producers and some new talents on the same record. All the artists are invited to send me an exclusive cut that represents their own take on the acid sound, and I also create a track for each volume. The track “Siren” was written, produced and mixed in my studio using vintage gear.”

Looking ahead, she has plenty planned for 2023.

“2023 has been an amazing year so far, I’m very grateful to play in many countries /
continents each month and to be able to perform my music around the world,” she says. “Also, I still continue to play regularly at Tresor in Berlin as I’m a resident of the club. Regarding my label Dame-Music, a few releases are already planned for this year and the forthcoming one is due out on the March 30th. My forthcoming EP is going to be out sometime this summer and I have a couple of remixes and other music projects on the go.”

Bloody Mary and the Sound of Sirens: Bloody Mary’s “Sirens” single is out now. She performs on the City Steps Stage at CRSSD on Saturday, March 4.
