Asakuma restaurant, which has been serving sushi and Japanese food since 1985, closed three weeks ago, according to an employee of Asakuma Delivery, which has a different owner than the restaurant. “They went bankrupt,” said an Asakuma Delivery employee. The interior of the restaurant has not been cleared out yet, with napkins and papers sprawled across the floor.
A receptionist at The Massage Company, a business next door to the abandoned restaurant, located in the same strip mall complex on Wilshire and Barrington Boulevards, said they closed three weeks ago and haven't been back since. “People still come in groups … They should have put a 'thank you for your patronage' sign up on the door or something.” Meanwhile, The Palace Seafood & Dim Sum restaurant (replacing VIP Harbor Seafood), a couple of shops down from Asakuma, had its grand opening late last month, serving Chinese food and dim sum.
