Broken Spanish Comedor from Chef Ray Garcia opens today in Culver City, in the former Best Bet space on Washington Blvd. Originally an IHOP, the A-Frame building has been reimagined at least a half dozen times over the years.   The latest rendition, designed by Candace Shure of Shure Design Studio, features sage green tiles paired with a bright block-print wallpaper, wooden breezeblock-like wall tiles, and is accented by gauzy linen pendants.  Vintage décor and art from Shure Design Studio’s collection, alongside custom-built furniture, pay homage to the original Broken Spanish in downtown LA.

The menu revives some Broken Spanish classics like  Garcia’s chicharrón (crispy pork belly, garlic mojo, pickled red cabbage) and refried lentils, as well as some new additions like fideo verde (toasted vermicelli noodles, fennel, hoja santa, and avocado) and a chicken, leek and feta enchilada with tomatillo salsa and homemade crema), as well as a full bar program.

The Inaugural Scoop Palm Springs Ice Cream Festival presented by Hollandia Dairy will bring together Coachella Valley’s sweetest spots for a day of sampling, entertainment, and community fun at Downtown Park on Sunday, Nov.  2. There will be 20 vendors serving ice cream, gelato and paletas including local favorites like  Brandini Toffee, Gelato Granucci, Kreem, Ice Cream & Shop(pe) and plenty of music. Scoop Palm Springs is donating 100% of net proceeds from the event to the Palm Springs LGBTQ Center of the Desert’s Community Food Bank, a nonprofit that provides free food to more than 350 families each week and offers support beyond food by referring clients to additional services that move them toward stability. There will also be a food drive at the event to gather food for the Community Food Bank.

Blue Ribbon’s Oktoberfest Menu at Fountain Bar at The Grove is now being served through Friday, Oct. 31, a special menu of German-inspired classics, like soft-baked pretzels with green onion–spiced mustard, beer-braised sausage with pickled vegetables and smoky bacon spaetzle, and braised red cabbage.  It’s a rare opportunity to dig into the traditional Southern German specialty flammkuchen, a thin flatbread topped with sour cream, onions, bacon, and cheese. They will be pouring  AleSmith Märzen-style Oktoberfest beer brewed by AleSmith in San Diego.

Anthony Anderson + Cedric The Entertainer’s AC Barbeque in the Westfield Century City Mall has two new additions to the menu – the Mac Nificent and the Link 182. The decadent MAC NIFICENT has a creamy mac and cheese base loaded with a choice of protein, drizzled with AC’s barbecue sauce, and topped with chopped pickles and onions, and finished with a dusting of AC’s signature MVP seasoning. The LINK 182 is a  Southern-style hot link topped with tender chopped brisket, Backyard BBQ Beans, melty shredded cheese, and pickled jalapeños piled high on a Martin’s hot dog bun and finished with chopped pickles, onions, and a touch of yellow mustard.
