Courtesy The Butcher’s Daughter
The Butcher’s Daughter has launched a Vegetable Slaughterhouse for the fall, a new dinnertime concept that reimagines the traditional steakhouse. An after-dark evolution of the brand’s daytime cafés in Venice and West Hollywood pairs hearty vegetable cuts with natural wines and handcrafted cocktails.
For starters, the tomato tartare reinterprets the steakhouse staple with crispy artichoke, parsley, capers, and egg yolk, and the oyster mushroom calamari is a mélange of oyster mushrooms and Calabrian chili aioli. Entrees include a harissa-roasted cauliflower steak with roasted poblano labne and watercress, and a seared lion’s mane mushroom steak alongside olive oil mashed potatoes and café de Paris butter. Side dishes range from charred eggplant with chermoula and feta to Japanese sweet potatoes with miso butter. Matcha Basque Cheesecake with strawberries and Chocolate Crèmeaux with cherry compote and sesame are for dessert.
Starting this week and ongoing every other Thursday through February 2027, Prosperity Market’s trailer will make two stops. The first at Earle’s on Crenshaw (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), followed by Sister Dreamer, artist Lauren Halsey’s sculpture park in South Central.
In 2020, when food insecurity was surging across the community, Halsey and Summaeverythang Community Center delivered an average of 600 boxes of organic produce to South Central families every week, sourced from small Southern California farms.
At each stop, the trailer will be stocked with products from Black-owned businesses for purchase, including local produce from Farmer Ken, Sherman Produce, and Papaw’s Organic Farm; pantry staples like Smoked Oil from Alta Adams; Fun Time Kettle Corn. A different local chef will take over the trailer’s food truck on each date, including Chef Nekia Hattley of My Daddy’s Recipes (November), Chef Binta of With Bee (December), and Asha Starks of Hot Grease (January).
