Today, her custom clothing brand, K’s Couture, celebrates a milestone that reflects not just entrepreneurial success but also a legacy rooted in artistry, resilience, and the power of self-expression.

Founded in 2011, K’s Couture specializes in bespoke occasionwear, from intricate wedding gowns to glamorous evening attire. But for Katteleine, this business didn’t take root while looking at a retail shop or watching a fashion show on TV. It started in her childhood home in Haiti, where she grew up surrounded by fabric, thread, and a rhythmic hum of sewing machines. “I would say that I’ve been doing this all my life,” says Katteleine. “I started by making dresses for my dolls while watching my parents, who were both in the clothing business. I made my first dress at 11, and by 14, my parents, observing my talent, gifted me exactly what I would’ve asked for, which is an electric sewing machine.”
That love for sewing became a lifeline years later when she immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. Struggling to find work, one day, Katteleine passed a bridal shop, walked in, and asked for a job. They handed her a mannequin and a challenge. She rose to it and was hired on the spot.

From there, she climbed the ranks of the bridal industry, eventually working as a manager in a major retail bridal chain. But even then, she continued to sew for clients from her home. Later, while pursuing her MBA, she pitched her fashion business for a class assignment. Her professor’s response validated her passion when he said, “It seems to me you already have a business.” That validation was the spark, and K’s Couture officially launched shortly thereafter. Katteleine did this all while being a mother of three.
Today, Katteleine is known for more than just her technical precision. She’s celebrated for her mission of making people feel seen, confident, and beautiful in garments tailored exactly to their vision and body. “It’s hard to find one gown that fits everybody,” she says. “When you shop off the rack, you often leave feeling like something is wrong with you. But there is no standard body type. Every person deserves something that fits them perfectly.”
Every design at K’s Couture starts from scratch. Katteleine creates custom patterns, collaborates on fabric choices, and walks each client through the process. She says, “I always tell my clients, ‘You’re the designer. Whatever your mind desires, your body will wear. I’m just here to bring that to life.’”

And bring it to life she has, for quinceañeras, red-carpet appearances, and countless weddings. Her proudest moments aren’t stitched in sequins and beads but in the reactions of the women she dresses. “I had a bride who was worried because she needed to carry her insulin pump on her wedding day,” Katteleine recalls. “I created a pocket in the gown just for that. It wasn’t visible, it didn’t touch her skin, and she felt free, confident, and beautiful.”
That attention to detail, empathy, and craftsmanship has earned K’s Couture a loyal following. Many have been with her since the beginning, following her from her home sewing room to her professional studio.
Looking ahead, Katteleine wants to broaden the reach of K’s Couture. She believes custom fashion should be accessible, not an elusive luxury reserved for celebrities. “K’s Couture isn’t just about style,” she states. “It’s about identity. And everyone deserves to wear theirs proudly.”
