If you haven't seen Jon Favreau's new movie Chef yet, we have a screening for you. Or rather, Zócalo and KCRW do. Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m., there will not only be a free screening of Favreau's popular new food truck movie, but after the show, Evan Kleiman will sit down with Roy Choi to talk about the movie.

Because this is Los Angeles and we don't go to movies, we go to screenings. Because Choi served as co-producer and technical consultant on the film and has fun things to say about it. Because Kleiman likes to interview people and is very good at it. And because you really need an excuse to head to Mexicali Taco and Co. (or yes, your nearest Kogi truck) afterwards. Well, no, you don't need an excuse. But this is a very good good one, isn't it.]

This whole evening of fun is part of the joint Zócalo and KCRW My Favorite Movie series, quarterly events in which prominent Angelenos come in to screen and talk about their favorite flicks at the Million Dollar Theatre in downtown L.A.

If you haven't heard of the series, it's because this is the very first one. Hooray! If you haven't heard of Roy Choi, author of the memoir L.A. Son, founder of Kogi BBQ, and whose restaurant POT recently opened in Koreatown, you've obviously been out of town for a long time. If you haven't heard of Evan Kleiman, you never turn on your radio, since she's been host of KCRW's “Good Food” for a very long time too. Anyway, come to the screening and get up to speed on everything important. Then maybe go eat a taco. We have lots of good ones in this town.

Chef, a film by Jon Favreau about a guy and his food truck, will be showing at the Million Dollar Theatre at 307 S. Broadway at 7 p.m., June 19. Admission is free and open to the public. Make a reservation at zocalopublicsquare.org. Parking is $10 at 308 S. Hill St., just south of 3rd St.
