Zagat's 2012 edition for Los Angeles is out. The little rectangular maroon book that is, not the Zagat 2012 L.A. Google map. The guide, which was first published by Tim and Nina Zagat in 1987, has determined that this year's restaurant scene is good: 35% of those polled said it's better than last year; 4% say that it's worse. Needless to say, Zagat did not poll on the state of the domestic or global economy.

Top honors for Food went to Matsuhisa. Urasawa won for Top Service, The Edison for Top Decor, Spago for Most Popular and Paul Shoemaker's Point Dume restaurant Savory won Best Newcomer. Kogi BBQ won Top Food Truck. Yes, Zagat includes that category now. Of course they do. Turn the page for a full rundown of the top restaurants and newcomers. I guess somebody really, really likes sushi. And didn't get to A-Frame in time for last year's newcomer list. It's kind of an odd list, really: Cafe 14 and Leila's outrank Mozza? Okay.
