Young Culture Recalls 1975: Gabe Pietrafesa of New York pop-punk trio Young Culture told us about his 1975 experience.
Gabe Pietrafesa: The best concert I’ve ever been to was The 1975. I think I must’ve been 18 or 19 years old, took a bus from Albany to the city for their show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It’s funny because at this point I had been performing in bands with Alex [Magnan] in our local scene for six or seven years, but I had never been to a concert in an arena or venue like that. Instantly, I was mesmerized by the amount of people and honestly just the size of the room. I was on the floor and just turned around in awe. The whole show was incredible. They put on an amazing performance. The lights, the sound, the banter between songs, it was nuts. Low-key, I was jealous the whole time. The biggest takeaway was I needed to get Young Culture in an arena, and since then we’ve crossed off some pretty substantial things on our bucket list. No arena shows yet (haha) but I know it’s coming.
