The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association once again teams with the American Film Institute — past events have included tributes to Rodgers and Hammerstein and the films of 20th Century Fox — to host The Big Picture: AFI's Great American Movie Quiz. Audience members are given multi-colored glow sticks to use during the 20 multiple-questions-round, while the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by David Newman, plays snippets of scores, and film clips are projected onto the big screens. (It's similar to a rave, without the bad music and drugs). No surprise Citizen Kane is ranked number one on AFI's “100 Years ….100 Movies” list, followed by other familiar heavy weights. So brush up on your familiarity with mobsters, space, killer sharks and disturbed motel owners with mommy complexes. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave.; Sept. 4, 7:30 p.m.; $11-$158.
