With businesses around the country being given the option to ask guests for proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter, those measures can now appear on business Yelp pages for consumers to see.

The next time you search for a restaurant or store, you may see “Proof of vaccination required” and or, “All staff fully vaccinated” on its Yelp page, depending on what the business requires.

“To help protect businesses that may experience backlash for their vaccination policies, we are proactively monitoring Yelp pages of businesses that activate these attributes,” Yelp Vice President of User Operatoins, Noorie Malik, wrote in a public letter Thursday.

An option to display a business’ mask guidelines is also available. If consumers are required to wear masks, or if the business wants to let guests know that employees must wear masks, there is now an option to display it on their pages.

The business review website said it will also be closely monitoring for what they call “review bombing,” which has occurred throughout the pandemic when a business has gained publicity for its vaccination or mask requirements.

“… we are putting protective measures in place to proactively safeguard them from reviews that primarily criticize the COVID health and safety measures they enforce,” Malik said in her letter.

Malik added that “review bombing” frequently occurred and was monitoring when it allowed “black-owned,” “Latinx-owned,” “Asian-owned,” and LGBTQ-owned” options to be displayed on businesses in the past.

As in the past, Yelp will display “unusual activity alerts” if a business receives a sudden influx of reviews.

In Los Angeles County, businesses have the option to require proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 tests, with several restaurants, bars and entertainment venues using the county-approved option.

On July 15, L.A. County also reinstated its indoor mask mandate for all, regardless of vaccination status.

On Thursday, L.A. County recorded 3,672 new COVID-19 cases, 19 deaths from the disease and 1,279 hospitalizations.
