Wrong-Way Accident on East Broadway Left Xavier Gonzalez-Mercado Dead

TUCSON, AZ (December 13, 2021) – Tuesday morning, 23-year-old Xavier Gonzalez-Mercado died in a crash on Broadway Boulevard.

According to authorities, the car accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

Per reports, Gonzalez-Mercado was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima the wrong way on Broadway Boulevard. As a result, he collided head-on with a 2005 Mercedes Benz in the 6700 block of Broadway.

Due to the impact of the collision, Gonzalez-Mercado was pronounced dead by medics at the scene.

In addition, a female victim sustained life-threatening injuries. Afterwards, authorities transported her to a local hospital for further treatment.

At this time, the deadly crash is still under investigation. Once available, further details will be provided.
