A man who was foiled as he started to break into a home in affluent Pacific Palisades fled and ended up running through the nearby Getty Villa, home of Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities, police said.

No he didn't get his hands on “Victorious Youth” or any other invaluable art, but cops still want to catch up with the would-be, Monday afternoon burglar. Los Angeles police say the suspect knocked on the door of a residence in the 17000 block of Tramonto Drive about 2:20 p.m.

When the owner of the home didn't answer he allegedly smashed a window in back of the home, and the resident yelled at him, prompting him to flee down the hill toward the Getty.

The man was described as Latino, in his late 30s, and about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has a receding hairline and likely cut himself pretty good on his right bicep during his escape, police said.

Anyone with information about the suspect was asked to call West Los Angeles Division detectives at 310-444-1568 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
