If you're a major league baseball team, no doubt there are many, many ways to celebrate a first place standing in your division. Champagne, maybe, or a big cake with as many candles as wins. Or, if you're the Dodgers, try ice cream.

Last week, the Dodgers reached first place in the National League West and, according to Yahoo! Sports, celebrated with scoops and scoops of ice cream from Baskin-Robbins. Gold Medal Ribbon, World Class Chocolate and Jamoca Almond Fudge, to be exact; your guess is as good as ours as to which flavor(s) Clayton Kershaw picked. Per Yahoo!, the ice cream “was self-serve in the executive kitchen, where cups are provided,” though apparently some folks brought their own coffee mugs. Because you may as well.

The dessert is a part of a tradition started by the O'Malley family, back in those nice years when they owned the Dodgers. The practice continues today, so whenever the team reaches first place, or extends its first place lead — as they did last night, when they beat the Yankees — gallons of ice cream are hauled in and served family-style. Which, after playing a game of baseball in the middle of summer, probably is a much, much more fun way to toast a victory than drinking a glass of Champagne.
