Here's a sign of the times. The day following a fatal campus shooting at UC Irvine, and moments after a report on declining crime rates, KNX radio carried an ad for 125-year-old Woodbury University. A young woman's soothing voice came on the air, presumably belonging to a student who was praising the Burbank school she attended. What did she tout, ahead of Woodbury's academics and faculty?

“The campus,” the voice said, “is very safe.”

One  campus crime survey, in fact, shows zeroes for virtually every category of wrongdoing, except for a few “liquor law violations” — but those were probably inside jobs.
