As we remarked when the book Enchanted Strings: Bob Baker Marionette Theater came out recently,  the puppet shows at the famed theater provide much more than puppetry. Bob Baker’s marionettes bring lasting joy to anyone lucky enough to have experienced them. Baker’s theater locales around L.A. and shows at various family events cemented his place as a local legend. The 8th annual Bob Baker Day Festival returns to LA State Historic Park this Saturday, with Grand Marshal Bob Gurr; Bozo the Clown, live music, activities, and stringed things everywhere you look. The free event will feature family fun including coloring with Forest Lawn Museum, clowning with Bozo the Clown (aka David Arquette) and all his friends, Oxy Arts, Southern California Children’s Museum crafting, face painting with JeriFaceInvader, caricatures by Rene Pompa, puppet making with the LA Guild of Puppetry, bubbles with Megan the Bubblologist, King Kukulele, Buster Balloon (read our story him here), Joe Selph, Hollow Trees, Children’s Fairyland Master Puppeteer Randal Metz, Pacific Opera Project, DJ Set with Ms. Kelly Kathleen and much more.

And don’t forget to pick up your copy of Randal J. Metz’s book! The visual history tome covers Baker and his theater’s shows, crowds and of course puppet friends. With a fun intro by Jordan Peele, the book is a treasure for  nostalgia fans young and old alike. Get your copy here. Bob Baker Day Festival, at L.A.
