0 4Women’s History Month is an opportunity to celebrate all women, but females from marginalized communities in particular can benefit from the important conversations about discrimination and the fight for equality that March brings. This intersectional approach can not only benefit and inspire BIPOC and LGBTQ women, but society as a whole. In the new academic-driven book Latinas and the Politics of Urban Spaces: Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in Politics and Policy,  the focus on Chicanas, Puerto Ricanas, and other females who create and participate in social movements makes for an educational and inspirational read that calls out racism, sexism, homophobia, gentrification and anti-immigrant rhetoric. Editors/University of San Antonio professors Sharon Navarro and Lilliana Saldaña will speak about these topics and more at this “virtual plática” with additional panelists including Sara DeTurk, Lourdes Torres, Norell Martinez, Teresa Gonzales, Shariana Ferrer and Fernando Tormos-Aponte. Expect Latina perspectives on environmental justice, conflict resolution, women’s rights, LGBTQ coalition-building, and more. Sat., Mar. 20 at 10 a.m. PST on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
