Earlier this month a pair of women in green uniforms knocked on the door of an Echo Park man and told him they were from the Los Angeles Police Department Animal Cruelty Task Force.

They most certainly were not, the LAPD said this week.

Nope, these two are wily, dog-snatching criminals, the department alleges.

It happened April 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Waterloo Street, the department said:

The women told the victim that there had been multiple complaints about a dog at the residence being neglected. The women handed the victim a flyer and said they were there to “confiscate” the victim’s dog.

Cops said the flyer looked accurate and had the correct phone number for the Animal Cruelty Task Force.

Even though the dog had not been abused or neglected, the victim decided the women were legit, and he handed over the pooch, police said.

When the duo left, he called the number on the flier, the LAPD said. Officers said they had not been to his location.

Oops.

The department recently issued a “scam alert” about the pair.

Both women were described as 5 feet, 150 pounds and in their mid-30s, police said. Anyone with information on the duo or on the missing dog was urged to call detectives at 213-484-3400.
