49-Year-Old Wrong-Way Driver Pronounced Dead after Head-On Collision near Grossmont High School
EL CAJON, CA (September 5, 2024) – One woman died early Sunday morning, in a wrong-way collision on westbound Interstate 8.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m., near Grossmont High School on August 25th.
Per reports, a woman driving a 2021 Kia K5 was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 8, leading to a head-on collision with a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado.
Medics pronounced the 49-year-old Kia driver dead at the scene, though her identity has not been released yet.
The 34-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with serious injuries for further medical care.
Following initial investigations, authorities suspect that intoxication may have been a contributing factor. The investigation into the fatal wrong-way crash is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
