Three Hospitalized after Fatal Auto Collision near Via Piedra

VALLEY CENTER, CA (March 22, 2022) – Tuesday night, a head-on accident on Lilac Road left one woman dead and two others injured.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-car collision occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Lilac Road west of via Piedra.

Furthermore, police said a 62-year-old man was driving a grey Lexus ES 350 eastbound lane of Lilac Road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle swerved into the westbound lane and slammed into a black Chevrolet Bolt driven by a 73-year-old man with a 76-year-old female passenger.

First responders rushed all three victims to Palomar Medical Center. However, the 76-year-old female passenger unfortunately succumbed to her injuries while on the way to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the two drivers, both residents of Valley Center, suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon preliminary investigation, crews confirmed that alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the accident.

Meanwhile, traffic was delayed until around 9:00 p.m. while CHP investigated and preformed cleanup duties around the crash scene. More information will be updated as it becomes available to the public.
