73-Year-Old Woman Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 17 near El Rancho Drive

SANTA CRUZ, CA (March 29, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, one person died following a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 17. The incident happened on March 21st, at around 5:45 a.m., on the northbound lanes of Highway 17 near the El Rancho Drive off-ramp. Investigation showed that a 73-year-old woman, driving a 2003 Acura, was traveling north when she lost control of the vehicle at the south of El Rancho Drive exit. The Acura struck a metal pole which caused it to overturn. The woman suffered serious injuries as a result. Emergency crews at the scene performed life-saving measures but the woman did not survive due to the extent of her injuries. Moreover, the crash blocked the northbound lanes to the off-ramp El Rancho and snarled traffic as a result. At this time, the identity of the woman was not yet known. The cause of the solo-vehicle crash on Highway 17 is still under investigation.
