One Dead, One Hospitalized after Head-On Crash near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard

SAN DIEGO, CA (January 14, 2022) –  Late Tuesday night, a woman died and a man sustained injuries in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 8.

The incident occurred around 11:24 p.m., on the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.

Reports indicate that a 24-year-old man from Sacramento was driving a blue Subaru Outback east on the westbound lanes. There, he eventually collided head-on with a gold Toyota Camry driven by a 54-year-old woman.

Due to the impact of the collision, responding officers pronounced the woman dead at the scene, and the medics rushed the man to a local hospital for further treatment.

Additionally, officers arrested the male driver of the Subaru on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs before taking him into custody.

Furthermore, police closed the westbound Interstate 8 lanes and redirected traffic to Sports Arena Boulevard from midnight until 3:48 a.m.

At this point, an active investigation into the wrong-way collision on Interstate 8 is still currently underway.
