57-Year-Old Female Pedestrian Hospitalized after DUI Crash near Sunrise Way

PALM SPRINGS, CA (February 6, 2023) – Wednesday, Mark Blanchette was arrested and a woman was hurt in a DUI crash on Tahquitz Canyon Way.

Officers responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m., near Sunrise Way. Upon arrival, units discovered the unresponsive woman lying in the roadway.

For DUI related reasons, the driver of a vehicle struck a female pedestrian who was walking across the street. Medics arrived and transported the woman to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The driver, 59-year-old Mark Blanchette of Palm Springs, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Officers arrested Blanchette and booked him into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio for DUI.

Authorities closed down a portion of Sunrise Way just south of Tahquitz Canyon Way for several hours to conduct an investigation. Those with additional information can contact PSPD Traffic Division at 760-323-8125.
