Dennis RomeroL.A.'s Eastside and nearby neighborhoods have now seen four murders involving female victims, murders that have gone unsolved in the last two years.
The LAPD has debunked community rumors that there's a serial killer on the loose, saying there are no links. (One case we've noted is in the neighboring city of Vernon).
A woman's body was found yesterday in an industrial area just east of downtown:
The discovery at Seventh and Rio streets was reported at 1:19 a.m., Officer Cleon Joseph told City News Service.
The victim, found on a sidewalk, appeared to have been stabbed to death, he said. Unlike the other murders mentioned here, however, the victim appeared to be older — in her 40s, according to police.
In early July another woman's body, that of 24-year-old Maria Castaneda, was found in a similar area, near the L.A. River in the city of Vernon.
Two other homicide cases include:
-That of 22-year-old Bree'Anna Guzman, whose body was discovered next to the Glendale Freeway in Silver Lake in January.
-That of 17-year-old Michelle Lozano of Boyle Heights, whose body was found next to the 5 freeway in Lincoln Heights in April.
