Female Passenger Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash at Mile Marker 22.8 near Wheeler Springs

OJAI, CA (October 17, 2022) – Wednesday afternoon, a woman was killed and a man was airlifted after a solo-car accident on Highway 33.

The fatal incident occurred around 4:12 p.m., on the south side of Maricopa Highway just north of Wheeler Springs.

Following preliminary investigations, officers determine that the driver of a 2001 Acura MDX veered off the road and crashed into a hillside. Upon impact, the vehicle overturned before coming to rest.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the female passenger died at the scene. Authorities only described her as a Ventura County resident in her 40s.

Meanwhile, responding medical personnel airlifted the 41-year-old male driver from Taft to Ventura County Medica Center with significant injuries.
