Female Passenger Killed in Semi-Truck Accident near Nees Avenue

FIREBAUGH, CA (June 27, 2022) – One woman was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon, after a big-rig collision on Interstate 5.

Officers responded to the scene around 2:17 p.m., just north of the Nees Avenue off-ramp.

Investigators say a 2016 Freightliner was heading north on the highway and failed to see the slowed traffic ahead. As a result, the driver was unable to brake in time and rear-ended four vehicles before overturning.

In addition, authorities said the first vehicle that the truck hit was a 2016 Nissan Murano with three occupants. Due to the impact of the collision, the woman sitting in the right rear passenger seat died at the scene.

Meanwhile, other parties involved in the collision received minor injuries. Authorities have yet to release the identities of those involved, pending notification of next of kin.

At this time, Firebaugh Officials continue to investigate the crash. Once available, further details will be provided.
