DUI Driver Arrested after Fatal Car Accident near Whipple Road

HAYWARD, CA (December 3, 2021) – Early Sunday morning, a woman was killed and four others were hurt in a car collision on Interstate 880.

The accident occurred shortly before 3:00 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the highway, just north of Whipple Road.

For suspected DUI related reasons, the driver of a Tesla SUV struck a Volkswagen sedan parked on the right shoulder of the freeway. The impact pushed the Volkswagen into the left lanes. There, it was struck by two more vehicles.

A female passenger inside the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and three other passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

In the end, police arrested the Tesla Driver, identified as a 25-year-old man from San Jose on suspicion of driving under the influence.

An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided regarding the deadly collision on Interstate 880.
