When Eva celebrates its one-year anniversary on Wednesday, September 29th, big kitchen star power will take over the restaurant's compact space. “They've all been friends of mine for many years,” says Eva's Chef/Owner Mark Gold of pals Michael Cimarusti, Josiah Citrin, Walter Manzke and Sherry Yard, who will share the cozy cooking quarters on Beverly and each create a dish for the special five-course meal. At first the idea “was a potluck thing that fits Eva's concept,” Gold explains, “but that turned into, 'let's do a full dinner.'” And with friends like that, why not?

After a few weeks of tweaking the collaborative menu — too much yuzu appeared at one period during the organizing phase, for example — the team has “cemented it,” Gold says. So on the 29th, Manzke will contribute a yellowtail ceviche with watermelon, sun gold tomatoes, and jalapeño; Citrin is responsible for the Monterey red abalone with celtuce, meyer lemon, brown butter-abalone broth; Cimarusti is planning a lightly smoked arctic char with smoked wild steelhead roe, shimeji mushrooms and braised soba; Gold is doing the prime beef and matsutake; and the cryptic nature of “Sherry's Surprises” can only mean good things for Yard's contribution to the meal. Just make sure you don't come away expecting such achievements from your friends next time you host a potluck or pitch-in type gathering.

Eva's anniversary dinner will be available for two seatings at 6 and 9:00 p.m., and costs $150 per person. Wine pairings can be added for $50, or $100 for the “upper tier” pours.
