Willy Rosoto-Reyes, a 46-year-old Latino man, was fatally shot on January 24 on the 1400 block of West 6th Street in Westlake. Though City News Service initially reported that Reyes was shot at 5 a.m. by a man he had previously been arguing with, LAPD Detective Jeff Cortina described the case to the Los Angeles Times as a walk-up shooting, and said it was not gang-related.

When police arrived at the scene, Reyes was already dead.

At around the same time, the LAPD got another 911 call from a few blocks away, on 3rd Street and Westlake Avenue, concerning an injured man who had also been shot.

Unlike Rosoto-Reyes, the second victim did not die, but the Los Angeles Police Department thinks the two crimes might be related.
