Head-On Crash near Farmoso Road Kills 53-Year-Old Bakersfield Woman

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 16, 2023) – Tuesday morning, William Pederson and Lucy Martinez were injured in a fatal DUI crash on Highway 65. The fatal incident happened on February 14th, at around 3:50 a.m., north of Famoso Road. According to reports, Pederson was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram north on Highway 65 when the vehicle crossed the solid double yellow lines. The Ram crashed head-on with a southbound Toyota, leaving significant damage to both vehicles. The impact of the collision caused the Ram to overturn several times. First responders to the scene pronounced the 53-year-old female Toyota driver from Bakersfield died at the scene. Meanwhile, another Toyota occupant, identified as 50-year-old Lucy Martinez was rushed to Kern Medical for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver of the Ram, identified as 52-year-old William Pederson suffered minor injuries. Authorities took Pederson into custody on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
