One of the most bizarre moments in American justice took place almost 20 years ago, at least if Anchorman 2 star Will Ferrell is to be believed.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live last night the Southern California born-and-raised comedian reiterated a story that he once performed for a sequestered jury that was considering the fate of O.J. Simpson during his infamous 1994-1995 murder trial:

Kimmel asked Ferrell to share the oddest or worst gig he'd ever performed. Ferrell said it happened during his time at The Groundlings improvisational comedy theater and school, which has churned out numerous stars and Saturday Night Live players:

The worst gig was when I was at the Groundlings Theater here in L.A. on Melrose, and it happened to be when the O.J. trial was going on and the jury was sequestered. So they couldn't leave their hotel or anything. And we went to perform for the O.J. jury. We did sketch comedy in a courtroom for 20 jurors. We could do whatever we wanted. They didn't really laugh. They just smiled.

Kimmel asks, “Were they a good audience? Because they weren't a good jury.”

“That jury blew it,” Ferrel quipped. But …

They were very appreciative … They gave us a standing ovation and they were led out of the room and we packed up our wigs and costumes. That was weird.

So, if you ever disagreed with the jurors who acquitted Simpson in the murder his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, now you know who poisoned them.

Blame Ron Burgundy.
