This news just in from the folks over at Wildcraft Sourdough Pizza in Culver City: The restaurant has closed down in order to transition to a full-scale Italian restaurant called Wildcraft.

Chef Tin Vuong and restaurateur Jed Sanford have brought on chef Bryant Wigger (recently of Trattoria Neapolis in Pasadena), and plan to evolve the restaurant “beyond a pizza place.”

Wildcraft Sourdough Pizza opened in 2012, and won our Best New Pizzeria award that year. We wrote: “The Culver City joint combines a decades-old starter with three days of sitting around to achieve perfect pungency in the dough, then uses Vera Pizza Napoletana–trained techniques to work the pizzas into formidable rounds of cheese-and-sauce perfection. Each pliant slice is crispy and bubbly on the outside, with a thin, chewy interior that struggles to hold up toppings like fennel sausage, eggplant, squash blossoms, clams and more.”

Fans of that pizza shouldn't despair: The signature pizza will remain. But Vuong and Wigger will build an Italian menu to go along with the pizza and make it less of a pizza-focused restaurant.

Also in the works? A cocktail program, thanks to a new full liquor license.

Wildcraft will reopen with its new pared-down name and new expanded menu sometime in August.
