If you're running in the L.A. Marathon this Sunday, you'd better run fast–not just to boast about how well you did but to get to Locanda del Lago and take advantage of its marathon special.

Bring in your number and you're entitled to a double portion of any entrée on Lago's “body refurbishing” menu. The choices include insalata di nervetti, which is braised calf foot cartilage salad (and you think your feet are sore); lingua in salsa verde (beef tongue with green sauce); ossobuco alla Milanese (braised veal shank), and midollo di bue (caramelized beef bone marrow).

Or you can recover with Lago's carbohydrate fix, a double portion of any housemade pasta entrée.

The spectators who cheered you on are entitled to a bargain too–15 % off whatever food they order, as long as they say the magic word, “marathon.” And if you're one of those valiant plodders who finish after almost everyone's gone home, don't worry. The special is available for dinner as well as brunch and lunch.

Best of all, Lago is an easy walk from the finish line. No running required after all.

Locanda del Lago: 231 Arizona Avenue (at the Third Street Promenade), Santa Monica; (310) 451-3525.
