No matter how many CGI-created, 3-D-pimped epics continue to hit the silver screen, there will always be a place on celluloid — and in the hearts of geeks everywhere — for good, old-fashioned monsters. For aficionados of ghouls and gore, the Rubber Room presents Monsterpalooza 2010 in Burbank this weekend, with three solid days of creepy events. Highlights include a Saturday panel with two of the big guns in the FX industry, Howard Berger and Greg Nicotero of KNB EFX; and Sunday's remembrance of the late, legendary sci-fi collector Forrest J. Ackerman, with his longtime assistant, Joe Moe, and others. Also on the slate are special screenings, a walk-through museum, artwork displays, celebrity autograph sessions and vendors aplenty. If they're into the spooky stuff, bring the kids; Moebius model kit company is giving away free monster model kits to the first 100 little 'uns who attend each day.
