In 2009, Scott Sanders cranked out Black Dynamite in 20 days on Super 16; the blaxploitation spoof, starring actor and martial artist Michael Jai White and co-starring Arsenio Hall and Tommy Davidson, received critical and culty acclaim despite an all-too-brief theatrical run. It is only fitting that the brash, bold world of comics (beautifully retro-styled comics to boot) is the next step in the former CIA agent's ass-kickin' adventures. To set it off, the newly christened Nerdist Industries space at Meltdown Comics will co-host its first event, Monday's “epic podcast/film/comic/music mash-up” for Black Dynamite: Slave Island. Nerdist guru Chris Hardwick and his podcast pals will record an episode during the panel discussion with Sanders, White and their co-creators, with a comics signing to follow immediately; also on the slate will be music from the film's score-master Adrian Younge and the Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra, trivia for prizes, original art by Jun LoFamia, a food truck TBA and more!
