A white Los Angeles police officer won a discrimination lawsuit against the department earlier this month after he claimed a Latino supervisor treated him differently because of his race.

Paul Waymire was awarded $125,000 by a jury for his pain and suffering related to the treatment, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The officer was awarded the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for helping to rescue a man from a burning car in 2005.

Waymire said his supervisor denied him promotions and instead gave the jobs to lesser cops because he is white. There is no word yet on whether or not the department will appeal the case.
