Boozing it up at bars is fun and all, but even that can get boring after awhile. The antidote is the explosion of pub trivia nights taking place all around Los Angeles on almost every night of the week. From West Hollywood to Studio City to Silver Lake, people are putting their heads together in serious team trivia competitions, armed with their knowledge of film, music, geography, science and more. Winners get a reduction on their bar tab and bragging rights, and there is usually one round where you can win free drinks.

Here are six of L.A.'s best places to show off your deep knowledge of random factoids — one for every night of the week. (Except Friday, because even trivia dorks need a night off now and then.)

Monday: Red Lion Tavern
If you crave your trivia with sausages and lederhosen, head over to Silver Lake where Red Lion will make your fantasy a German-tinged trivia reality. Various categories include “name that celebrity” and “which answer is not correct.” Make sure to bring along your highly attuned listening skills and musical knowledge for the “name that song” round. The winning team receives a $25 Red Lion gift certificate, usable anytime. If you aren’t the overall winners, you might still manage, at the very least, to salve your injured pride by winning the special shots round. Wunderbar!
Starts at 8 p.m. 2366 Glendale Blvd., Silver Lake.

Tuesday: Barney's Beanery
What could be sweeter than roasting your own s'mores while playing trivia? Over in West Hollywood, Barney’s Beanery lets you do just that. There's a raffle that gives a lucky table a round of free drinks, and you'll get various amounts off your overall tab if your team places first, second or third. If you want to challenge your brain cells while killing them off over pitchers of beer, this is the place. After all, it was cool enough for past bar regulars including Steve McQueen, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. Surely, it's cool enough for you.
Starts at 9 p.m. 8447 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood.

Wednesday: The Fox & Hounds Pub
If you want your trivia with a U.K. twist, head to Studio City, where neighborhood British pub The Fox & Hounds serves your trivia with a side of English delicacies including steak 'n' kidney pie and bangers & mash. In addition to the usual trivia fare, there is a round of “quarters,” where you can try to bounce a quarter into a shot glass for a round of drinks for your table. Gift certificate prizes for first, second and third place.
Starts at 8 p.m. 11100 Ventura Blvd., Studio City.

Thursday: Irish Times
Need a little luck of the Irish to get your trivia mojo working? Then head over to Irish Times for their expansive collection of Irish whiskeys as you try to answer questions ranging across a variety of categories including science, geography, movies and music. Apropos of a bar trivia night in Los Angeles, “famous alcoholics” is also a category. There are drink and food specials including a $3 shot special that changes each week. First place wins money off your bar tab.
Starts at 9:30 p.m. 3267 Motor Ave., Palms.

Friday
It's Friday night. You've had a long week. Turn off your brain, go out and let loose. There aren't Friday night trivia games because Friday night was not made for thinking, kapeesh? “Bars bring us in to boost attendance,” says Andy Roth, owner of Action Trivia. “If a bar needs a trivia night on a Friday night, they've got bigger problems than I can fix.”

Saturday: Little Bar
It's hard to find trivia on a Saturday night, but this Miracle Mile establishment is the answer to your trivia weekend cravings. While you're racking your brain to find answers, a boost to your blood sugar with some local munchies couldn't hurt. Luckily, this place is BYOF (Bring Your Own Food). You can bring your own eats or order food from a menu of restaurants that deliver right to the bar. Win a variety of gift certificates depending on where you place. But if you don't place first, second or even third, maybe you can try your luck at the drinking round and win yourself a bit of denial at your lack of trivial knowledge.
Starts at 8 p.m. 757 S La Brea Ave., Miracle Mile.

Sunday: T. Boyle's Tavern
In Pasadena, the bulk of the trivia crowd seems to be comprised of two types of folks: brainy Caltech students, and those who want to beat Caltech students. Order the venue's signature pickled egg or try their variety of tacos, nachos or smoked meats, washed down with extensive beer offerings ranging from Coors Light to Noble Mucky Muck Black Rye Lager to seven types of cider. Prizes for first, second and third place.
Starts at 8 p.m. 37 N. Catalina Ave., Pasadena.
