One cliche about L.A. that happens to be true: we play as hard as we work. Which means when a holiday of rest comes around, a lot of us choose to do anything but. The long weekend is an excuse to milk the last precious bits of Summer's daytime realness/raucousness dry- skimpy get-ups, frozen cocktails, pool prancing and all. Here, the best shindigs to do just that both before and after dark.

Saturday, Sept. 5
