That food is big news seems, well, ironic at best, given the fact that it's as basic as air and water to human survival. But then air (quality) and water (drought) are big news too. In this vein, the new issue of The Nation hits the stands and the web: a special issue devoted almost entirely to food. Michael Pollan writes on Wendell Berry's impact on the food conversation; Alice Waters on an “edible education;” Dave Murphy on “An American Right to Food.” There are articles on fighting hunger in Africa,”Ten Things You Can Do to Start a Community Garden,” and students fighting for environmental awareness in cafeterias. There's lots more, and, if you weary of the subject, you can read about Teddy Kennedy too.

Founded in 1865, The Nation is the oldest continuously published weekly magazine in the U.S.
