Should you be operating under the assumption that “Julie & Julia” is the only destination for lovers of food and film this weekend, we would like to remind you that you live in Los Angeles, where, for quality film and cuisine–and both simultaneously–there are always myriad options. Here's a short list of this weekend's alternatives to stale popcorn and cinema:

At 9 p.m. this Saturday, Bulgarini invites customers to view Frederico Fellini's erotic drama “La Dolce Vita,” as an appropriately sweet ending to an 8 p.m. dinner at their Altadena restaurant. “Vita” will be the latest in their weekly screening series of classic Italian films — previously, the shop has screened titles like “Divorzio all'Italiana.” They update their website weekly with new screening announcements so check in often.

Or consider Saturday's al fresco alternative: pack a picnic and some blankets (and some booze, since it's allowed) and head to the Hollywood Forever cemetery where Cinespia will be screening Peter Yates 1968 action classic “Bullit,” starring Steve McQueen. Try pairing your picnic dinner with the film: perhaps smoked salmon, as a tribute to the film's heavy firearm usage? The screening starts at 8:30 p.m., but gates open at 7 p.m. and live djs will be spinning before and after the movie. Cinespia shows classic films every Saturday during the summer, so check their website for upcoming screenings. Next week, (August 15th) it's Peter Bogdonavich's “Paper Moon.” $10 donation tickets are available at the gate.

And this Sunday, and every Sunday through September 27th, the W Hotel's outdoor restaurant The Backyard will host a free screening outdoors at The WET pool. You can't bring a picnic, or your own alcohol, but the restaurant offers a whole menu to satisfy your biting and sipping needs while you watch Paramount's finest (they sponsor the screenings) from your poolside lounge chair. Doors to screenings open at 7 p.m., and movies start at sunset. On August 9th, they screen “Bad News Bears,” and “A Mighty Heart” on August 16. Visit the series site for more details and a complete schedule of screenings.
