Doo-doo-doo: You're boating around San Diego Bay on a nice summer day and boom … a gray whale just slammed into your ride.

That really happened.

Or at least, the pair in the slow-moving speedboat, Patti Picchietti and her 79-year-old father think that's what happened this week. They hit something, they told San Diego's KGTV, they just weren't sure what it was until a jet skier came by and told them, according to Picchietti's account:

You guys hit a whale.

The duo thinks it was a wayward wail that has been spotted in the Bay in recent days.

The father apparently sustained bruises when he he was thrown at the side of the boat from the impact, and Picchietti says she did a face plant, but both are okay.

Experts say it could happen.
