Prosecutors said this week that they've filed suit to halt the launch of a proposed cannabis retailer at 3472 S. Centinela Ave. in Mar Vista:

The shop's operators have balls: City voters decided in May to cap the number of dispensaries in L.A. to the roughly 130 that existed before a 2007 moratorium was approved by the City Council.

So new stores shouldn't be opening. But they are.

The City Attorney's office says a “civil enforcement action” was filed against the shop. The location, at least according to our reading of Google Maps, appears to be the site of a shuttered market that existed on the corner of Centinela and Palms Boulevard for decades.

Fifty other criminal cases are pending against pot retailers that should have closed down under city rules, the office states.

City Attorney Mike Feuer:

My office is working diligently to uphold the will of the voters in passing Proposition D in May, and we are collaborating with the Los Angeles Police Department and Building and Safety to aggressively enforce the law.

By some counts, there are more than 1,000 medical marijuana dispensaries in L.A., making the city the pot shop capital of America.

Feuer has his work cut out for him.
