Even during the riots 20 years ago, the Westside Pavilion mall was a nearly crime-free sanctuary with private, armed patrols in a part of town known more for its well-rested than its unrest.
Still, shit happens, even in West L.A:
Cops say robbers hit the Pavilion in spectacular style:
A “smash-and-grab” robbery was reported last night at a Westside Pavilion jewelry store at 8:32 p.m., police said.
Fox 11 News said the store was a Zales.
At least one of three men who took part in the heist had a hammer and apparently smashed jewelry cases before they fled with the goods, authorities said.
They got away (for now) with a reported $130,000 in jewels.
And get this:
One of the guys jumped into the trunk of a fleeing car, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman said.
Fortunately for detectives, witnesses got a license plate number: 6UDK307.
Know it? Call the LAPD West L.A. Division: 310-444-0702.
