Dennis RomeroOpponents of a massive development proposed for West Los Angeles say a psychiatric facility could be included in the mixed-use, 12-acre project.
A statement from a group called Fight Bundy Village indicates that developer Michael Lombardi has refused to exclude the possibility of a psychiatric treatment center being included in the project, which would also contain 385 residential units, retail space and medical facilities.
The group also claims that Lombardi reneged on a promise to fund a $20,000 study on what effects the project at West Olympic Boulevard and Bundy Drive — called Bundy Village — might have on vehicle travel times in the area.
Opponents also decried unanimous approval of the project Thursday by the city Planning Commission. “The City Planning Commission's approval today of the massive Bundy Village development is unconscionably irresponsible in light of the significant negative impacts on Westside communities,” stated Lauren Cole, chair of a Bundy Village committee set up by local Councilman Bill Rosendahl.
The project will next come before a council committee and then the full council. Rosendahl said he does not approve it as-is — that it needs to downsize. Opponents say it will add 21,000 extra car trips per day to the area.
