The shock result of the evening comes to us from the steamy streets of West Hollywood, where City Council John Heilman sits in fourth place, a mere 28 votes behind Lindsey Horvath. Since only the top three vote-getters win, that means Heilman is staring defeat right in the eyes, unless provisional ballots (or a recount) can save him. If he loses it will be the biggest upset in WeHo's municipal election history.

To call Heilman a longtime councilman is an understatement. Heilman was elected to West Hollywood's inaugural City Council, when the city was incorporated in 1984. He's held office in the town for more than three decades.

The other two apparent victors are incumbent John D'Amico, first elected in 2011, and dark horse candidate Lauren Meister, a former city commissioner.

That's quite a shakeup for Weho, which voted to enact term limits for the first time in 2013. Hellman fought that effort tooth and nail. If the current election numbers hold up, it would seem voters think term limits aren't short enough for him.
