The new book Art and Queer Culture is a comprehensive historical overview of Queer Art that spans 125 years. Co-authored by Catherine Lord (a professor of studio art at UC Irvine) and Richard Meyer (an art history professor at Stanford), it's chockfull of photos, drawings, posters, texts and more, documenting the rise of queer artistic voices in modern society. Queer artists often faced extreme prejudice and hatred; this new release from Phaidon honors the artists and institutions that refused to allow fear or discrimination to stop them from expressing their creative vision, however far outside the norm. ForYourArt, an online resource that helps people discover opportunities to see, collect and support the arts, will host tonight's launch at its unique Activity Space in Mid-City. Co-hosted by LACE, Phaidon and ForYourArt, the event will feature a panel discussion with the authors, light refreshments, beer and wine.
