76-Year-Old Arcata Woman Killed in Traffic Collision Near Willits, Identified

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (March 28, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, a traffic collision along Highway 101 in Humboldt County claimed the life of Wendy Marcus.

The fatal collision happened around 4:11 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Ridgewood weigh station.

According to the report, a 70-year-old woman lost control of her 2003 Jeep due to wet road conditions.

Subsequently, the Jeep went into the northbound lanes of 101 and collided with a silver 2011 Hyundai.

First responders eventually arrived at the scene and declared the Hyundai driver dead at the scene. Later, authorities identified the deceased woman as 76-year-old Wendy Marcus of Arcata.

Her 74-year-old male passenger from Lafayette was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital who was suffering from significant injuries.

In addition, paramedics also transported the Jeep driver and her 39-year-old male passenger from Willits to the same hospital for treatment.

No further details regarding the Highway 101 two-vehicle crash have been released to the public. Humboldt County Officials will provide more information once available.
