Yesterday afternoon, West Hollywood Sheriff's deputies responded to a routine call from a lady who had noticed a German Pointer locked in a car parked along her street. The windows were all rolled up, and she was concerned that the dog might be in danger.

But when deputies arrived to the 1200 block of Ogden Drive to let the dog out, they found a red Nissan Pathfinder full of bigger problems:

Namely, a duffel bag with what looked like eight one-pound baggies of marijuana, says Sergeant Ken Davidson, and a “laptop satchel” filled with cash. The sergeant says both bags were left out on the seat.

Davidson isn't sure exactly how much cash the Nissan driver was carrying — “because it hasn't gone through accounting yet” — but says the satchel was filled at least halfway with $20 and $100 bills.

“Due to rising temperatures, deputies forcibly entered the car to rescue the animal,” reads a press release from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. But according to Davidson, the same genius who sealed a German Pointer into a Nissan with heaps of weed/cash had actually left the back hatch open, so “the deputy was able to just push the button and the window went down.”

Animal Care and Control took the dog into custody, where officials listed him in “good condition.” In fact, Davidson says the dog's caretaker had even left some food and water in the back of the car. (Oxygen, not so much.)

Narcotics investigators aren't actively searching out the apparent drug dealer. Instead, they're counting on the suspect to start missing the stash/car/dog so badly as to come forward him- or herself.

“I'm waiting for the driver to contact me so we can talk about what we found,” says Sergeant Davidson. And it's going to be a ” very long talk.”

Update: Here are some additional details from the Sheriff's Department.

The amount of money was estimated to be over $10,000. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $24,000. The vehicle was also impounded as evidence.

The vehicle in which the dog, marijuana and money were located was identified as a red, 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with Arizona license plates.

Dear Arizona airhead: If you're reading this, and you're ready for your “long talk,” you can go ahead and contact Sergeant Davidson at (310) 855-8850, extension 430.
