Here's a story you don't want to tell your family at the Thanksgiving dinner table: You got busted for drunk driving.

The Los Angeles Police Department actually wants you to avoid that embarrassment. To that end, it's warning you about where and when its officers will be looking for DUI suspects this weekend.

The LAPD says that “research shows that traffic collisions involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.”

Here's the 411:

]

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. a checkpoint will be expecting you on Olympic Boulevard at Blaine Street near Staples Center.

-Tonight from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. a DUI checkpoint will be waiting for your closeup on Hollywood Boulevard at Bronson Avenue in Hollywood.

-Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight a checkpoint will be running at Slauson and Vermont avenues in South L.A.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. the LAPD will be operating a checkpoint on Lankershim Boulevard at Kittridge Street in North Hollywood.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. a checkpoint will be waiting for you at Western Avenue and Third Street in Koreatown.

Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. extra patrol cars and LAPD motorcycles will be searching for drunk drivers on the streets of the department's Foothill Division (map) in the Valley. Police call it a “saturation patrol.”

-Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. another saturation patrol will be taking place in the LAPD's Southwest Division (map) near USC.
